victoria / Mount William Station
Set at the foothills of the Grampians (Gariwerd) in Willaura, Mount William Station is a grand 7,500-acre historic pastoral property. Originally established in 1842, the estate centers around a refurbished 19th-century homestead surrounded by heritage gardens, a rose garden, a tennis court, a swimming pool, and the newly restored Bluestone Stables event space.
From my perspective as a wedding photographer, Mount William Station offers a sense of scale that is rare in Victoria. The contrast between formal English gardens, historic bluestone architecture, and dramatic mountain backdrops gives us an unbelievable range of settings to work with—all on a single, private address where your guests can stay for the entire weekend.
Mount William Station sits roughly 2.5 hours west of Melbourne near Dunkeld and Ararat, positioned right at the base of the Grampians National Park. As a Melbourne wedding photographer, I love making the trip out here because it gives couples a true country destination experience. It allows guests to turn your wedding into a full weekend getaway, exploring mountain hikes, local wildlife, and regional wineries. View my wedding portfolio →.
EXCLUSIVE BUYOUT & TERMS: Booked strictly on an exclusive-use basis, guaranteeing complete privacy across the 7,500 acres for your wedding weekend.
GASTRONOMY & DRINK: BYO and flexible catering arrangements, allowing you to bring in bespoke catering, food trucks, or private chefs tailored to your preferred dining style.
CEREMONIES & EXPERIENCES: Outdoor ceremonies take place across the five acres of Homestead gardens, including the front lawn, side lawn, or framed within the century-old Rose Garden. Post-ceremony drinks and canapés run through the garden courtyards or around the pool area.
ON-SITE ACCOMMODATION: Sleeps up to 35 guests on-site between the luxury 6-bedroom Homestead and the rustic Shearers' Quarters. Custom luxury glamping villages can also be set up on the grounds for additional guest lodging.
GUEST CAPACITY & LAYOUT: The restored Bluestone Stables dining hall accommodates up to 150 seated guests indoors. Large-scale marquee setups on the lawns accommodate up to 300 guests for bigger receptions.
ACCESSIBILITY & TRAVEL: Located approximately 2.5 hours west of the Melbourne CBD. Accessible via sealed regional highways, with private helicopter landing available directly on-site.
Because the property requires a buyout and offers lodging for up to 35 guests (plus glamping), it feels more like a private countryside retreat than a standard one-day event space. Hosting a welcome dinner on Friday and a poolside recovery session on Sunday extends the whole celebration.
The light in the Grampians region is incredible, particularly as the sun drops behind the peaks. The open paddocks and high tree lines give us sweeping, cinematic horizons for portraits right at dusk.
Unlike venues with rigid in-house packages, Mount William Station gives you total control over your food, wine, and design layout. Whether you want formal seated dining in the Stables or a relaxed marquee event under the stars, the layout adapts completely.
In my experience as a wedding photographer, Mount William Station is one of the premier destination venues in regional Victoria. Combining deep pastoral history, sprawling acreage, flexible event setups, and luxury accommodation, it provides a rare, private setting for an all-weekend celebration. If you want a high-impact country estate close to the mountains, it’s a property I always look forward to working at.
I’m a wedding photographer based between Melbourne, Australia and Puglia, Italy, working across two of the most beautiful wedding seasons in the world.
During the Australian summer, you'll find me photographing weddings across Melbourne, wider Victoria, and throughout Australia. For me, the magic always comes down to a connection-first approach. I care way more about getting to know you as a real couple so you can feel completely comfortable letting your guard down around the camera. My goal is simply to blend into the background of your day, catch those unscripted, "in-between" moments, and give you a final gallery that actually captures how your wedding felt.
