Dating back to the 16th century, I Luoghi di Pitti is a protected, fortified estate set across 20 hectares in the Alta Murgia National Park near Altamura. Acquired and restored by the Moramarco family in 2001, the property builds on a hospitality and artisanal pastry tradition dating back to 1984.
The venue hosts only one wedding per day, guaranteeing total privacy. From a photographer’s perspective, the estate offers exceptional layout versatility and clean architectural light—moving from open piazzas and tree-lined avenues to the vaulted Archway Hall, the subterranean Ipogei, and the historic Neviera ice house.
I Luoghi di Pitti sits 5 km outside Altamura, right in the heart of the Alta Murgia landscape. It gives your guests a landscape totally different from coastal Puglia—rolling wheat fields, stone quarries, and open skies. It’s positioned just 20 minutes from the UNESCO Sassi of Matera and 40 minutes from Bari Airport, making travel logistics simple while keeping you surrounded by raw countryside. WEATHER PROOFING (NO PLAN B NEEDED): Unlike most masserias that rely on emergency stretch tents, the estate features expansive indoor stone halls and underground caves that easily accommodate the entire guest list indoors without compromising aesthetics.
ON-SITE ACCOMMODATION: 10 boutique double rooms and suites on the upper floor of the Relais, featuring original painted walls and vaulted stone architecture for getting ready.
GUEST CAPACITY & LAYOUT: Massive capacity flexibility. Hosts intimate gatherings up to large celebrations over 350 guests across multiple outdoor courtyards and indoor halls.
GASTRONOMY & PASTRY: All catering and pastry are exclusively managed in-house by the Moramarco family, leveraging an artisanal pastry tradition dating back to 1984. Known for custom almond-based petite pastries and bespoke wedding cakes.
ACCESSIBILITY & TRAVEL: Bari Airport (~40 mins / 45 km). Located 5 km outside Altamura, with fast access to Matera (20 mins) and the Adriatic coast (50 mins).
CEREMONIES ON-SITE: Officially recognised as a Casa Comunale since 2016 for legally binding civil ceremonies on-site, as well as symbolic rites. Ceremony setups can be held in the gardens, under the sail-canopy Piazzale Vele, or underground in the caves.
UNDERGROUND SPACES: Features two distinct subterranean areas—the Ipogei and the Neviera, for ceremonies, wine tastings, or late-night parties.
The subterranean Ipogei and the historic Neviera are two distinct underground spaces completely unique atmosphere you won't find at standard farmhouses. The raw, carved limestone walls and warm accent lighting make it an unforgettable setting for candlelit ceremonies, wine tastings, or late-night afterparties.
Rain backups are usually a compromise, but I Luoghi di Pitti was designed so you don't need a fallback tent. The double-aisled Archway Hall, the covered portico veranda, and the subterranean spaces mean an indoor shift feels like an intentional design choice rather than a Plan B.
Having in-house kitchen and pastry teams run by the estate owners changes the pace of the reception completely. Dinner service is tight, and the dessert buffets, rooted in local Altamura almond traditions—are built to an exceptionally high standard.
I Luoghi di Pitti brings together 16th-century masseria architecture, in-house pastry heritage, and full event privacy near Matera. Outside, the stone piazzas, tree-lined avenues, and wheat fields give you an authentic Murgia look set against open horizon lines. Inside, the original stone architecture feels completely untouched, think vaulted halls, historic Relais rooms, and dramatic underground caves.
With 10 Relais rooms, massive guest flexibility, and built-in indoor spaces that require zero rain compromises, it’s one of the most complete and visually grounded venues for a wedding in central Puglia.
